NCSSE Now being full members of NCSSE we at BCA can offer courses at £27

BCA's next series of internationally recognised NCSSE coaches courses and qualifications will be as another UK regional based tour series in June 2008, venues based on enquiries received.   During 2007 over 1,060 courses were sat.   These have been held in Bristol, Manchester, Stevenage, Burnham, Renfrew, Leeds, Leicester, Leominster, Brighton, Liverpool, Chepstow, Renfrew, Chelmsford, Livingston, Belfast, Western Super Mare, Maidstone and Durham.

NCSSE courses and qualifications are run in conjunction with the National Council for Spirit Safety and Education, the body representing many of the major US cheer organisations.   NCSSE is accepted by the NCAA.   These courses are structured and teaching based.   Places are limited to 40 coaches per course.   Venues tend to be heavily subscribed so you are advised to book early.   Venues are determined by spread of enquiries received.

Course days starts at 9 AM.   Each course is 4 hours, followed by a multiple option test paper.   After a short break for lunch afternoon classes start approx 2 PM, finishing approx 6 PM.

Level 1 - CHEER COACHING PRINCIPLES AND ETHICS - Developed by the NCSSE, this fundamental course has been designed specifically for cheerleading coaches desiring to build a foundation necessary for a successful cheerleading program.   This comprehensive overview covers the following key elements:
  • Roles and Responsibilities of a Coach
  • Safety Management
  • Sportsmanship Ethics
  • Relationship Building
  • Program Development
This introductory class is a prerequisite course for any additional courses taken through the NCSSE.   Length of course: 4 hours.   Course materials: 94 pages.   Cost of course £27.00.  

If your insurance company require proof of qualifications - this is the minimum one to take


Level 2 - PROGRAMME MANAGEMENT & CHEER FUNDAMENTALS - Coaches will be presented with a more in depth and interactive approach to Program Development (practices, legal liability, etc.) and Safety Management.   These topics include the following fundamental coaching skills:
  • Motion and jump technique
  • Practice organisation
  • Conditioning
  • Tryout Implementation
  • Legal responsibilities
This second level course assumes you have taken Principles & Ethics.
Length of course: 3 hours.   Course materials: 114 pages.   Cost of course £27.00.

Level 3 - COACHING STUNTS AND TUMBLING I - This course is a must for safe stunting. Key elements of this course include standard terminology, proper skill progressions, spotting drills and techniques, and participant roles and responsibilities. This interactive course uses a video and printed manual to review safe stunting practices and teach the steps in basic to intermediate stunts and tumbling skills. Skills covered will include stunts that are shoulder level and below and tumbling progressions up to and including a standing back handspring. Basic basket tosses and basic to intermediate coed stunts are also covered with an emphasis on grips, proper technique, and safety.

This third level course assumes you have taken Principles & Ethics.
Length of course: 3 hours.   Course materials: 48 pages.   Cost of course £27.00.

Level 4 - COACHING STUNTS AND TUMBLING II - For coaches who have successfully completed certification for Coaching Stunts and Tumbling I, this interactive course offers coaches’ training on intermediate to advanced partner stunts and tumbling with an emphasis on safety. Stunts covered will include variations of extended stunts, dismounts, and advanced basket tosses. Advanced coed stunts are covered, including grips and proper technique. Tumbling progressions taught will include a back handspring series and skills up to and including non-twisting aerial flips. Key elements of this course include terminology, proper skill progressions, spotting drills and techniques, and participant roles and responsibilities.

    Length of course: 3 hours.   Course materials: 39 pages.   Cost of course £27.00.


    All course materials are provided.   You can choose to take just 'Cheer Coaching Principles & Ethics', or two courses on the same day (where available).   If you have previously taken 'Cheer Coaching Principles & Ethics' you can take 'Cheer Coaching Fundamentals' and Coaching Stunts and Tumbling I at the next courses opportunity.   Candidates should be over 18 years, but 17 and a half years can be taken with the proviso that if they passed their certificate would be held until their 18th birthday.


    Recertification:   Certification expires after three years.   You need to keep up to date on coaching education as the sport develops and mandatory requirements change.   To do so before your certificates expire contact NCSSE.   Cost is US$25 (approx £12.50) per course.   You will be emailed the latest courses materials and test paper.   Return test paper to NCSSE (post or scan/email).
    After 3 years you must sit the course again at the normal £27 per course.
